Jackie Collins (October 4, 1937 – September 19, 2015) was a British-American novelist best known for her romance novels, often featuring the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Born in London, England, Collins moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s, where she was immersed in the Hollywood lifestyle that would become a major theme in her writing.

Collins' writing career began in the late 1960s with her first novel, "The World Is Full of Married Men", which was considered controversial for its candid depiction of women's sexuality. Despite, or perhaps because of, the controversy, the novel was a success, setting the tone for Collins' reputation as a daring and unapologetic author. Collins' most enduring creation was the "Santangelo" series, a sequence of novels revolving around the ambitious and headstrong character Lucky Santangelo. Beginning with "Chances" in 1981, the series spans several decades and is a best-selling saga offering a vivid exploration of fame, wealth, and power in Hollywood and beyond.

Throughout her career, Collins wrote 32 novels, all of which appeared on The New York Times bestsellers list. Her books have been translated into 40 languages and have sold over 500 million copies worldwide. Collins was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) in 2013 for services to fiction and to charity. She was a devoted philanthropist, particularly involved in supporting the research and treatment of breast cancer, a disease she privately battled for over six years.
