Biography
James Gibbons (1834-1921) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He entered St. Charles College in 1855, and after graduating, entered St. Mary's Seminary. In 1861, he was ordained to the priesthood, later becoming the pastor of St. Brigid's Church. Gibbons served as Bishop of Richmond from 1872 to 1877, and in 1886 was elevated to Cardinal, becoming only the second American to attain the rank.
