James Dean (1931-1955) portrayed alienated, anti-establishment youth in East of Eden (1955), Rebel Without a Cause (released in 1955 shortly after his death) and Giant (1956), receiving Academy Award nominations for East of Eden and Giant. A motorcycle enthusiast like his hero, Marlon Brando, Dean purchased a Triumph 500cc TR5 Trophy model bike after seeing Brando ride a similar model, and wear a similar hat, in The Wild One (1954).  Dean was only 24 when he was killed in an automobile accident on September 30, 1955. His final day on the Giant set was just two weeks earlier.
