Died: August 13, 1991 in Newport Beach, California
Biography
James Roosevelt (1907-1991), the eldest son of President Franklin Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, organized an insurance firm in Boston, became a secretary to his father and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps through WWII (1940-1945). He later represented California in the U.S. Congress from 1955-1965. After a year as U.S. representative with the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Roosevelt returned to the private sector as a public relations consultant. Roosevelt broke with the Democratic Party to support Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan for President. His National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare was controversial, accused by critics of scamming seniors.
