Biography
Jehan Sadat (1933-2021), who married Anwar Sadat at the age of 16, has devoted her life to public service and improving the status of Egyptian women. One of her contributions was the founding of the Talla Society, an organization focusing on emancipation, education and training. Her husband of 32 years was Anwar Sadat, Egypt's President and Nobel Peace Prize winner who was assassinated on October 6, 1982. She continues to work for international women's rights and world peace. Sadat went on to teach at the University of Maryland, College Park and published an autobiography in 1987.
