Jerry Wald, born on September 16, 1911, in Brooklyn, New York, was a prolific American screenwriter and film producer whose career spanned over three decades in Hollywood. Noted for his versatility, Wald produced a diverse range of films, earning critical acclaim and leaving a lasting imprint on American cinema.

In the early stages of his career, Wald collaborated with Richard Macaulay, and together they penned several screenplays during the 1930s. Their teamwork proved successful, and by the end of the decade, Wald transitioned into producing, a move that would cement his place in Hollywood's annals. Wald's producing credentials are extensive and impressive. Some of his most distinguished works include the film noir classic "Mildred Pierce" (1945), which earned Joan Crawford an Academy Award for Best Actress. Another significant achievement was "Johnny Belinda" (1948), a groundbreaking film for its time that dealt with issues of rape and social prejudice, and which garnered Jane Wyman an Oscar for her performance. His knack for recognizing and fostering talent was evident when he championed a young Robert Mitchum and played a pivotal role in the actor's early career. Beyond these, Wald was also responsible for producing other significant films like "Peyton Place" (1957) and "The Long, Hot Summer" (1958), showcasing his ability to tackle various genres effectively.
