Joanne Gignilliat Trimmier Woodward (born February 27, 1930) is an acclaimed American actress, producer, and philanthropist. Born in Thomasville, Georgia, her acting prowess first gained recognition in the 1957 film "The Three Faces of Eve," for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Woodward's portrayal of a woman with multiple personality disorder cemented her standing as one of Hollywood's most talented actors.

Woodward's illustrious career spanned over five decades, with notable roles in films such as "Rachel, Rachel" (1968), for which she received her second Academy Award nomination, and "Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams" (1973), which earned her a third nomination. She also worked extensively in television, earning Emmy Awards for her performances in "See How She Runs" (1978) and "Do You Remember Love" (1985). Woodward's legacy extends beyond acting. She was the artistic director of the Westport Country Playhouse, one of the oldest surviving professional theaters, from 2001 to 2005. Her lifetime commitment to the theater led to the establishment of The Woodward Internship Program for theater arts students.
