JOE BECKETT
Biography
Joe Beckett (1892-1965) was a British heavyweight boxer who won the Commonwealth heavyweight belt "Bombadier" Billy Wells on Feb. 27, 1919. However, the National Sporting Club didn't recognize Beckett, so he was stripped of the belt and the title was declared vacant. He wouldn't be denied, though. He just came back four months later, on June 17, 1919 and beat Frank Goddard for the title. Beckett defended his belt twice before relinquishing it in 1923, when he retired. In all, Beckett had a professional record of 61 wins, 11 losses and one draw between 1912 and 1923.
