John Boles (1895-1969, born in Greenville, Texas), a stage actor and singer before making his film debut in 1924, appeared in a number of feature films for Fox and as a freelancer, including Rio Rita (1929), The Desert Song (1929), Frankenstein(1931), Bottoms Up (1934), and three Shirley Temple films. Before his acting career took off, Boles studied to become a physician and later served in the United States Army Intelligence Service during WWI for two years.
