Biography | show moreshow less
John Cassavetes (1929-1989) true artistic legacy derives from his work behind the camera; arguably, he was America's first truly independent filmmaker, an iconoclastic maverick whose movies challenged the assumptions of the cinematic form. He was nominated for Oscars in three separate categories: for Best Supporting Actor The Dirty Dozen (1967), Best Original Screenplay Faces (1968) and Best Director A Woman Under the Influence (1974).
