Biography
JOHN FORSYTH served as Secretary of State under Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren (1834-1841). He had served in the House and the Senate and, as U.S. Minister to Spain, gained King Ferdinand VII's ratification of the Treaty of 1819, which ceded Florida to the United States.
