Biography | show moreshow less
John Sutton (October 22, 1908 - July 10, 1963) was a notable British film and television actor of the mid-20th century. Born in Rawalpindi, British India, Sutton's acting career spanned several decades, with the peak of his work occurring in the 1940s and 1950s.

Sutton was raised in Britain where he honed his acting skills in theatre. His on-stage performances caught the attention of Hollywood, leading him to the United States where he embarked on a prolific film career. He is perhaps best known for his roles in major productions such as "Jane Eyre" (1943) where he portrayed Dr. Rivers, and "The Invisible Man Returns" (1940) in the role of Geoffrey Radcliffe. His compelling performance as John Ashwood II in "The Foxes of Harrow" (1947) further demonstrated his versatility and talent as an actor.

Outside of his work in the film industry, Sutton appeared in numerous television productions in the 1950s and early 1960s, marking an important transition in his career. His television appearances included "The Twilight Zone" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", proving his adaptability in shifting from the silver screen to the emerging television medium.
