JOHNNY VANDER MEER
Born: November 02, 1914 in Prospect Park, New Jersey
Died: October 06, 1997 in Tampa, Florida
Biography
Vander Meer (1914-1997) threw back-to-back no-hitters for the Cincinnati Reds in 1938, the only Major Leaguer ever to accomplish this feat. (Most pitchers today don't even start on just 3 days rest.) He pitched an unequaled 21 consecutive hitless innings. A four-time All-Star, Vander Meer was a fastball/sinkerball pitcher who led the National League in strikeouts three consecutive years (1941-1943).
