Biography
José Ferrer (1912-1992) won the 1950 Academy Award for Best Actor for reprising his 1947 Tony Award winning title role in Cyrano de Bergerac. He had previously been nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar as the Dauphin in Joan of Arc (1948) and would be nominated again for Best Actor in 1952 for his portrayal of painter Toulouse-Lautrec in Moulin Rouge. Produced by The Theatre Guild, The Silver Whistle opened on Broadway on November 24, 1948 and closed on May 28, 1949, as specified in this letter.
