Biography
Katharine Brush (1902-1952) was an American author best remembered for her involving narrative style and wit. Instead of going to college, she began her career working as a columnist for the Boston Evening Traveller, eventually moving on to short stories that were published in serial magazines such as College Humor and Cosmopolitan, the best known of which were collected into the book titled Night Club (1929). Her books Young Man of Manhattan and Red-Headed Woman were both made into Hollywood films. Her story "The Birthday Party" is still frequently taught in literature classes and appeared in the 2005 Advanced Placement English Literature Exam.
