KATHARINE HEPBURN
Born: May 12, 1907 in Hartford, Connecticut
Died: June 29, 2003 in Old Saybrook, Connecticut
Katharine Hepburn was born on May 12, 1907, in Hartford, Connecticu and she was an American actress.
Hepburn graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1928 and began acting in stage productions shortly thereafter. She made her film debut in A Bill of Divorcement (1932), opposite John Barrymore. Her performance led to widespread recognition and a contract with RKO Pictures. She won her first Academy Award for Morning Glory (1933). During the late 1930s, Hepburn experienced a decline in box-office popularity but returned to prominence with the 1940 film The Philadelphia Story, which she helped bring to the screen. She starred in the film alongside Cary Grant and James Stewart, and it became one of her most enduring successes.
Hepburn frequently collaborated with actor Spencer Tracy, with whom she made nine films between 1942 and 1967, including Woman of the Year (1942), Adam’s Rib (1949), and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967). The two also shared a personal relationship that lasted over two decades. Her later career included award-winning performances in The Lion in Winter (1968), On Golden Pond (1981), and The African Queen (1951), co-starring Humphrey Bogart. These roles cemented her reputation as one of the most respected figures in American cinema.
