Biography | show moreshow less
Larry Mize, born on September 23, 1958, in Augusta, Georgia, is an American professional golfer best known for his victory at the 1987 Masters Tournament. Mize's career in golf has been marked by his consistent performance and memorable achievements on the PGA Tour.

Mize began playing golf at a young age and developed his skills on the courses in Augusta. He attended Georgia Tech, where he played collegiate golf and honed his competitive abilities. Mize turned professional in 1980 and joined the PGA Tour in 1982.

One of the most significant highlights of Mize's career came in 1987 when he won the Masters Tournament, one of golf's four major championships. The victory was particularly memorable due to Mize's dramatic playoff win against Greg Norman. On the second playoff hole, Mize chipped in from off the green to secure the victory, a shot that is widely regarded as one of the greatest in Masters history. This win made Mize the first Augusta native to win the prestigious tournament.

In addition to his Masters triumph, Mize has three other PGA Tour victories: the 1983 Danny Thomas Memphis Classic, the 1993 Northern Telecom Open, and the 1993 Buick Open. He also played in the 1987 Ryder Cup, representing the United States in the biennial competition against Europe.

Mize's career extended beyond the PGA Tour as he transitioned to the Champions Tour (now PGA Tour Champions) after turning 50. He continued to compete at a high level, achieving several top finishes and remaining active on the senior circuit.
