Laurence Harvey (1928-1973), born Laruschka Mischa Skikne in Lithuania, was the first Lithuanian actor to be nominated for an Academy Award (Best Actor, Room at the Top, 1959). Harvey, who made his film debut in 1948, appeared in such films as Romeo and Juliet (1954), I Am a Camera (1955), Butterfield 8 (1960), The Manchurian Candidate (1962), Of Human Bondage (1964) and Welcome to Arrow Beach (1974, his last film, which he also directed). He also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies and TV shows. Harvey, who had begun his acting career on the stage in Britain, later became a producer, director and writer.
