LEE GREENWOOD
Born: October 27, 1942 in Sacramento, California
Lee Greenwood is an American country music singer and songwriter, best known for his patriotic signature song "God Bless the USA". Born on October 27, 1942 in South Gate, California, Greenwood began his musical career at a young age, playing the saxophone and later forming his own band, the 'Apartment #9', in the 1960s.
After a brief stint working in Las Vegas, he signed with MCA Records in 1981 and released his self-titled debut album. It was with his second album, "Inside Out", that Greenwood made his mark on the country scene. The album was a commercial success and included the hit "Ring on Her Finger, Time on Her Hands". Greenwood's career reached new heights in 1984 with the release of "You've Got a Good Love Comin'", which featured "God Bless the USA". This song became an emblem of American patriotism, gaining particular significance during the Gulf War, after the September 11 attacks, and other momentous national events. Over the course of his career, Greenwood has recorded more than 20 major-label albums and has had more than 35 singles on the Billboard country music charts. He has received numerous awards and accolades, including a Grammy for Top Male Vocal Performance for "I.O.U" in 1984.
