Biography
American western swing musician Leon McAuliffe (1917-1988) was born in Houston, Texas. At the age of 16, playing rhythm and steel guitar, he performed with the Light Crust Doughboys. Two years later, he joined Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys to compose the hit single "San Antonio Rose". Leon McAuliffe and His Cimarron Boys composed several hits like "Panhandle Rag" (#6 on U.S. Country Charts), "Cozy Inn" (#16), "Faded Love" (#22), "Shape Up or Ship Out (#35) and "I Don't Love Nobody" (#47). He opened the Cimarron Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma and helped fund a music program at Oklahoma's Rogers State College. In 1999, McAuliffe was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
