Marcus Beresford (1848-1922), full name Marcus Talbot de la Poer Beresford, was the 4th son of the 4th Marquis of Waterford. From 1890 onward, he was the manager of the thoroughbred horses of King Edward VII and King George V. When Prince Edward inherited the throne, Beresford was given the title of Extra Equerry and Manager of His Majesty's Thoroughbred Stud. Similarly, King George kept Beresford on in his post as royal equerry until Beresford's passing in 1922.
