Gordon M. Graham, Lieut. General, USAF, Retired, was born 16 February 1918, in Ouray, Colorado. Fie acquired a private pilot's license in 1940 and graduated as a petroleum engineer with a B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1940. He received an M.S.in petroleum engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1948. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in December 1940 as a flying cadet and was commissioned a second lieutenant and received his pilot rating in August 1941. In 1942 and I943 he served as an instructor pilot and in 1944 was assigned to the European Theatre of Operations where he flew a 300-hour combat tour and two twenty-five hour extensions prior to V-E day. He commanded the 354th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group. Flying P-51 aircraft he was credited with 16'/2 kills, 1 probable and 10 damaged. Later assignments included Commander 31st Fighter Bomber Wing; 4th Tactical Fighter Wing; Vice Commander 19th Air Force; Deputy for Operations, Tactical Air Command; Vice Commander, 7th Air Force, Viet Nam; Commander 9th Air Force; Vice Commander, Tactical Air Command; Commander Fifth Air Force and U.S. Forces, Japan and Commander Sixth Allied Tactical Air Force, Turkey.

He led a series of F-84F flights in 1956 demonstrating that nonstop air-refueled long range deployments were practical and led the first non-stop deployment of F-100's to Europe in 1958. He captained the 31st Tactical Fighter Wing team which won the Tactical Air Command Fighter Weapons Meet in 1958 and placed second in the worldwide competition.

He flew 146 missions in Southeast Asia in F-4 and RF-4 aircraft in 1966-67 and prior to retirement in 1973 accumulated over 9000 hours of flying in virtually every type of fighter aircraft from P-36 through all of the century series jets.
