Madeline Kahn (September 29, 1942 - December 3, 1999) was an accomplished American actress, renowned for her comedic roles in film, television, and theatre. Born Madeline Gail Wolfson in Boston, Massachusetts, Kahn pursued an acting career from a young age, showcasing her versatile talent across various mediums.

She gained widespread recognition through her collaborations with director Mel Brooks, beginning with her Oscar-nominated performance as Lili Von Shtupp in "Blazing Saddles" (1974). She would again earn an Academy Award nomination for her role in Brooks' "Young Frankenstein" (also 1974) as the endearing and hilarious Elizabeth. Kahn's distinctive comedic timing and remarkable singing voice made her a natural fit for the stage. Her work in Broadway musicals such as "On the Twentieth Century" (1978) and "The Sisters Rosensweig" (1993) garnered her Tony nominations, with her role in "The Sisters Rosensweig" earning her a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play. On television, Kahn was perhaps best known for her role as Pauline Fox on the sitcom "Cosby". The role earned her an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1999, the same year of her untimely passing.

Beyond her professional achievements, Kahn was known for her philanthropy. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she became an advocate for early detection and research of the disease. She succumbed to the illness on December 3, 1999, in New York City.
