Mahlon Dickerson (1770-1853) served in the New Jersey militia during the Whiskey Rebellion (1794). He was Governor of New Jersey (1815-1817), and then a U.S. Senator from that state (1817-1833). Moreover, Dickerson was Secretary of the Navy under Presidents Jackson and Van Buren (1834-1838).
