Biography
After distinguishing himself at Sebastopol in the Crimean War, the British soldier took part in the 1860 capture of Peking and became Commander of the "Ever Victorious Army", a Chinese force that suppressed the Taiping rebellion (1863-1864), earning the nickname "Chinese Gordon".
