Biography
Jose Modesto Rodrigues was a Major General in Cuba's War of Independence (1895-1898); Guayabal was one of the small towns in the province of Havana that had been captured by Cuban forces on January 1, 1896. Many of the small towns in the region had sided with Spain; with some even providing Cuban guerrilla forces to resist the revolutionaries.
