Marcel Prévost (1862-1941) left the tobacco manufacturing business to pursue literature, beginning with his novel The Scorpion (1887). Several of his novels focused on the effects of Paris education and society on young women. His 1904 play, La Plusfaible, was a critical and popular success. Prévost was elected to the French Academy in 1909.
