Biography
Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992), was already known in Europe as a singer and live performer when she achieved film stardom in two 1930 releases: The Blue Angel and Morocco. Paramount's answer to MGM's Greta Garbo, Dietrich was for a time in the 1930s the world's most highly paid actress. Her films were banned by the Nazis in her native Germany, and she played a key role in U.S. wartime efforts, singing her hit "Lilli Marlene" on many USO tours.
