Biography | show moreshow less
Marlon Brando (1924-2004) was nominated for the 1990 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (A Dry White Season, 1989) and for seven Academy Awards for Best Actor: 1952 (A Streetcar Named Desire, 1951), 1953 (Viva Zapata!, 1952), 1954 (Julius Caesar, 1953), 1955 (On the Waterfront, 1954), 1958 (Sayonara, 1957), 1973 (The Godfather, 1972) and 1974 (Last Tango in Paris, 1973); he won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1955 and 1973. However, he refused to accept the award for the title role in The Godfather (1972) because he believed that the U.S. and Hollywood in particular were discriminating against the Indian people.
