Melville Cooper (1896-1973) played second leads in several films of the late 1930s and early 1940s, and character roles thereafter. A peak year for Cooper was 1938, when he appeared with Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone in two hit films: Dawn Patrol and The Adventures of Robin Hood (as the Sheriff of Nottingham). He appeared frequently in TV plays of the 1950s. Cooper also appeared in almost 20 Broadway productions between 1935 and 1970.
