MERV GRIFFIN
Born: July 06, 1925 in San Mateo, California
Died: August 12, 2007 in Los Angeles, California
Biography
Merv Griffin (1925-2007) launched The Merv Griffin Show, a daily hour-long NBC talk show, in 1962, beginning his long foray into the chat-show world. He voluntarily called it quits in 1986. That same year, Griffin sold his Merv Griffin Enterprises to Coca-Cola for a whopping $250 million. The enterprise included two of TV's most popular game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, which he created (and for which he retained a portion of the profits). After retiring from the small screen, Griffin became a real estate mogul, acquiring the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills and several other hotels.
