Biography
Famed trumpeter Davis (1926-1991) was a pioneer of cool jazz in the 1940s, leading many small groups. Blending contemporary musical trends with jazz, Davis was awarded Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Soloist in 1982 for We Want Miles, in 1986 for Tutu and in 1989 for Aura. In 1993, Davis and Quincy Jones won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Ensemble for Miles and Quincy Live at Montreaux, recorded shortly before Davis' death in 1991.

MILES DAVIS - DOCUMENT SIGNED 05/31/1956 WITH CO-SIGNERS - HFSID 280768Document signed by Miles Davis in 1956, amending his 1955 contract with Columbia Records. The contract facilitated the formation of his permanent band, including John Coltrane. Also signed by Goddard Lieberson, the document is on Columbia letterhead.
