Monica Lewis was born May 5, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois and she was an American singer and actress known for her work in radio, film, television, and animation.
She began her professional career in the early 1940s and gained national attention as a big band vocalist and jazz singer. Lewis's early exposure to music came from her family; her father, Leon Lewis, was a concert pianist and composer, and her mother, Jessica Lewis, was a vocalist. She began singing on radio broadcasts, becoming a regular on shows such as The Chesterfield Supper Club. She also recorded with Benny Goodman’s orchestra and released numerous solo recordings throughout the 1940s and 1950s. In film, Lewis appeared in a range of musical and dramatic roles. Her screen credits include The D.I. (1957), Earthquake (1974), and Airport ’77 (1977). She also provided the voice for the cartoon character Chiquita Banana, a role she performed in advertisements for over a decade.
