Biography
Oscar Hammerstein (1846-1919), built several theaters in New York, mostly in Times Square. The great stars of stage and opera appeared at his theaters. In 1906, he built the Manhattan Opera House, known today as the Hammerstein Ballroom of Manhattan Center. His grandson was lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II.
