Biography
Paul Heyse (1830-1914), an author of novels, plays, short stories and poems, was the first German to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature (1910) for his contribution to the development of the modern psychological novella. He headed a circle of writers in Munich who opposed the trend toward realism in literature.
