Died: January 21, 2002 in Bel Air, Los Angeles, California
Peggy Lee (1920-2002), the singer whose smoky, insinuating voice in such songs as "Is That All There Is" and "Fever" made her a jazz and pop legend, was also instrumental in the success of the 1955 Disney cartoon feature Lady and the Tramp. She not only provided several of the character voices (including the Siamese Cats and dog pound vamp, Peg), she also wrote many of the film's songs. Lee's biggest hit was "Manana (Is Soon Enough for Me)", a number one hit in 1948. Her vocal flexibility and cool, breathy voice brought sultry distinction to big band showstoppers, pop ballads and soulful laments.
