Perry Como was born on May 18, 1912, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and he was an American singer, actor and barber.

The seventh of thirteen children of Italian immigrants, Como learned to play the organ and guitar in his youth and initially pursued a career as a barber. He began performing in local events before joining the Freddie Carlone Band in the early 1930s. His singing career accelerated after joining the Ted Weems Orchestra in 1936. Como's solo career began in the mid-1940s when he signed with RCA Victor, a relationship that would last for more than four decades with a series of hit recordings, including “Till the End of Time” (1945), “Prisoner of Love” (1946), “Don’t Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes” (1952), and “Catch a Falling Star” (1957), the latter becoming the first single to receive the Recording Industry Association of America’s gold record certification.

In addition to his recording success, Como hosted The Chesterfield Supper Club in the 1940s and later The Perry Como Show, which aired in various formats from 1948 to 1967, followed by a long-running series of holiday and musical specials through the late 1980s. Como received multiple Grammy nominations and won a Grammy Award in 1959 for Best Vocal Performance, Male.
