Biography
Peter Gennaro (1919-2000) made his Broadway debut in Make Mine Manhattan (1948), followed by Kiss Me, Kate (1948) and Guys and Dolls (1950). By 1956 he was out of the chorus and into choreography in West Side Story (1957). He won the Tony Award for Best Choreography in 1977 for Annie. He was nominated for the award another four times. While most of his fame came from Broadway, he worked steadily in television, choreographing for programs such as the Kraft Music Hall (from 1967-1968) and Your Hit Parade (in 1961). He appeared regularly on The Ed Sullivan Show throughout his career, making his 33rd and final appearance in 1971. Gennaro also served for many years as choreographer for Radio City Music Hall, staging for the Rockettes.
