Philip David Charles Collins, better known as Phil Collins, was born on January 30, 1951, in Chiswick, London, England. He is an esteemed English musician, singer-songwriter, record producer, and actor who rose to global fame as both the drummer and lead vocalist for the rock band Genesis, and later as a solo artist.
Collins joined Genesis in 1970 as the group's drummer and later took over as lead vocalist after the departure of Peter Gabriel in 1975. Under his leadership, the band produced a series of successful albums such as "Duke" (1980) and "Invisible Touch" (1986), the latter of which included the chart-topping title track.
Venturing into a solo career, Collins released his debut solo album "Face Value" in 1981. It was a commercial success, boasting hits like "In the Air Tonight" and "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)." His other notable albums include "No Jacket Required" (1985) and "...But Seriously" (1989). The former won him two Grammy Awards and featured hits such as "Sussudio" and "One More Night." Over the years, Collins has sold over 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling artists.
Apart from his music career, Collins also exhibited talent in acting. He starred in the 1988 film "Buster" and provided soundtracks for various movies, notably the Disney film "Tarzan" (1999), for which he won an Academy Award for the song "You'll Be in My Heart."
