Biography
Allan Blakeney was born on September 7, 1925, in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and was a Canadian politician and the 10th Premier of Saskatchewan from 1971 to 1982. Blakeney was a member of the New Democratic Party.

Blakeney’s early career was marked by his education at Dalhousie University, where he studied history and political science. His professional career began in the public service, and he quickly moved into politics, serving as an advisor to Saskatchewan Premier Tommy Douglas. Blakeney played a pivotal role in the development of Douglas's pioneering social programs, including Medicare. Elected as leader of the Saskatchewan NDP in 1970, Blakeney became Premier the following year.
