PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP
Born: June 14, 1946 in Queens, New York City, New York
Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is an American businessman, television personality, and politician who served as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021. Born in Queens, New York City, Trump pursued a career in real estate with his father, Fred Trump, in the family business, the Trump Organization. Over the decades, Trump expanded his ventures into building and renovating skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses worldwide.
Before his presidential tenure, Trump was best known for his role in the reality TV show "The Apprentice" and its spin-offs, which he hosted from 2004 to 2015. The program showcased Trump's business acumen and introduced his catchphrase, "You're fired."
Trump announced his candidacy for the U.S. presidency in 2015 and, against initial expectations, secured the Republican nomination in 2016. He went on to win the presidential election against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, albeit losing the popular vote but securing the Electoral College. His presidency was marked by significant policy changes in areas such as taxation, immigration, environmental regulations, and foreign affairs. A notable achievement was the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, which represented major tax reform.
Internationally, Trump pursued an "America First" policy, renegotiating trade deals and withdrawing from agreements like the Paris Agreement on climate change and the Iran nuclear deal. His meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un were noteworthy attempts at denuclearization talks. Throughout his term, Trump's leadership style was marked by frequent use of social media, particularly Twitter, to communicate directly with the public and to critique opponents. Trump faced impeachment by the House of Representatives twice during his tenure – first in 2019, on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, and again in 2021, on charges of incitement of insurrection. He was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions.
