Prince Adolphus Frederick, 1st Duke of Cambridge, (1774-1850) was the 10th child and 7th son of George III and Queen Charlotte. From 1801 until his death, he held the title of Duke of Cambridge. Following the dissolution of Napoleon's empire, he was Military Governor of Hanover from 1813-1816. Moreover, he functioned as Governor General of Hanover from 1816-1837, serving as Viceroy of Hanover from 1831 onward on behalf of his brothers George IV and William IV. He is the great-great-grandfather of the British monarch Elizabeth II.
