Ray Charles (1918-2015) is best known as the founder of the Ray Charles Singers, a music group that frequently appeared on The Perry Como Show (1948-1967). They were a key contributor to the musical production. Charles enjoyed a lengthy career as a choral director, bandleader, and singer. In a unique work experience, Charles worked alongside Jim Henson on The Muppet Show from 1979 to 1981. He worked on numerous major productions, including dozens of Kennedy Center Honors events. As a vocalist, he sang "Letters, We Get Letters" and the theme song for the television show Three's Company (1977-1984). Over the course of his career, he won two Primetime Emmy Awards and was nominated for an additional five.
