Richard Norman Anderson was born on August 8, 1926, in Long Branch, New Jersey and he was an American film and television actor.
Anderson moved with his family to Los Angeles, California, as a child and later served in the United States Army during World War II. He studied acting at the Actors’ Laboratory Theatre and began working in radio, stage productions, and motion pictures after the war. He became a contract player at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the early 1950s.
His early film roles included appearances in The Magnificent Yankee (1950), Scaramouche (1952), The Student Prince (1954), Forbidden Planet (1956), Paths of Glory (1957), The Long, Hot Summer (1958), and Seven Days in May (1964). Anderson portrayed Oscar Goldman, the government official supervising Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers, in The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. He played the role from the 1970s television series through later reunion films, including The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman (1987), Bionic Showdown (1989), and Bionic Ever After? (1994). His additional television work included Zorro, The Night Strangler, Columbo, The Love Boat, Dynasty, Perry Mason Returns, and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. He also portrayed President Lyndon B. Johnson in the miniseries Hoover vs. The Kennedys.
