Biography
Australian-born Richard Bonynge (b. 1930) has conducted orchestras all over the world, and he was the longtime accompanist for coloratura soprano Joan Sutherland, whom he married in 1954. Bonynge is also a recognized scholar of nearly forgotten operas. In 1977, he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and in 1983 was made Officer of the Order of Australia.
