Richard Lane, usually called Dick Lane (1899-1982) began as a vaudeville performer, moving into supporting roles in films in the 1930s. He played Inspector Faraday in the Boston Blackie movies, beginning in 1941. During World War II, he was an emcee for USO tours. Following the war, he gained fame as an announcer of professional wrestling and other sports, including roller derbies and demolition derbies. He made cameos as an announcer in several films, including Kansas City Bomber with Raquel Welch (1972).
