Biography | show moreshow less
Robert Fizdale, a distinguished American pianist and author, was born on April 12, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois. Widely acclaimed for his collaboration with Arthur Gold, their piano duet partnership "Gold and Fizdale" significantly shaped the two-piano repertoire of the 20th century. Noteworthy composers such as Paul Bowles, John Cage, and Igor Stravinsky composed pieces specifically for them, and they premiered many of these works to international acclaim. Their interpretations of classical and contemporary pieces alike elevated the status of piano duos in the world of classical music.

Fizdale, along with Gold, displayed their versatility by co-authoring two books, "The Divine Ameba" and "Misia", a biography of Misia Sert, a Polish pianist. The latter publication earned them the 1981 ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for music writing. The pair further showcased their multi-faceted talents with the 1971 publication of a cookbook, "The Cooking of Music", merging their interests in music, art, and gastronomy.
