ROD MCKUEN
Born: April 29, 1933 in Oakland, California
Died: January 29, 2015 in Beverly Hills, California
Biography
Poet, singer, songwriter and actor Rod McKuen (1933-2015) was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Song (1970, "Jean", The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie) and Best Score (1971, A Boy Named Charlie Brown). He won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word recording, Lonesome Cities (1968). Some critics deride McKuen's poems as overly sentimental, but no less a poet than W. H. Auden praised them as "love letters to the world."
