Biography | show moreshow less
Rod Serling (1924-1975), one of the creative geniuses of early television, received an Emmy Award for his Requiem for a Heavyweight in 1957. Serling, who began selling dramas to television in 1951, created over 90 scripts in the next four years. In 1955, he received his first Emmy, for Patterns, but since many of his scripts dealt with controversial subjects - and were targeted by the CBS censors - he turned to science-fiction. His first series, The Twilight Zone, which he created and hosted, aired from 1959-1964, and was television's most popular science-fiction series, winning an Emmy in 1959. "Bomber's Moon" was shown on Playhouse 90 in 1958, starring Robert Cummings, Martin Balsam, Rip Torn and Serling himself.
