Rod Steiger (1925-2002), was married to British actress Claire Bloom from 1959 until their divorce in 1969. Their daughter Anna was born in 1960. The U.S. title of Sartre's Loser Wins was The Condemned of Altona. Steiger received Oscar nominations in 1954 (Best Supporting Actor, On the Waterfront) and 1965 (Best Actor, The Pawnbroker). He won the 1967 Academy Award for Best Actor for portraying a well-meaning but prejudiced Southern sheriff in In the Heat of the Night.
